- Drive times from Colombo, door to door: Galle (116 km by the Southern Expressway) 2 to 3 hours; Kandy (about 115 km, no expressway) about 3 hours; Sigiriya/Dambulla (about 170-180 km) 4 to 5 hours.
- Sigiriya and Dambulla day tours from Colombo last 12 to 14 hours; pickup is around 6 am.

- Sigiriya is not a short hop from Colombo: it is 4 to 5 hours each way, so a day trip spends 8 or more hours on the road.
- 'All inclusive' or private day tours from Colombo usually exclude entrance fees, safari jeeps and meals; check each listing.
- There is no expressway to Kandy yet; the Central Expressway Kadawatha-Mirigama section is due in 2028.
- Galle is reachable in a day, but cruise passengers report about 3 hours each way from Colombo port.
